I was at PetSmart today and realized the only semi good dog food there way Blue Buffolo. I was completely shocked and appauled. I feed EVO and would never hurt my dog by feeding Iams, Purina, Kibble N Bits, Ol Roy, Science Diet, Max, Ekanuba, or etc. Why do people feed them these kinds is it ignorance or price? My EVO isn't much more exspensive the Science Deit but, is 100% better. These are the top rated dogs foods on the market: •Acana Dog Food •Addiction Dog Food •Artemis Dog Food •Back to Basics Dog Food •BLUE Dog Food •BLUE Organics •BLUE Wilderness •California Natural Dog Food •Canine Caviar Dog Food •Dog Whisperer - Cesar Milan Dog Food •Eagle Pack Dog Food •EVO Dog Food •Fromm Dog Food •GO Natural Dog Food •Horizon Legacy Dog Food •Innova Dog Food •Nature's Variety Instinct Dog Food •Karma Dog Food •Merrick Dog Food •Dick Van Patten - Natural Balance Dog Food •NOW •ORGANIX (Castor and Pollux) •Orijen •Party Animal (Canned Only) •Nature's Variety Prairie •Solid Gold Dog Food •Taste of the Wild Dog Food •Timberwolf Dog Food •Wellness Dog Food •Weruva Dog Food (Canned Dog Food Only) •Wysong Dog Food So any way, what do you every feed your dogs/puppies? Open Question: Did you know of the raw food recall?
LINCOLN, Neb., March 9 (UPI) -- Nature's Variety Inc. says it's recalling its chicken formula raw frozen diets for dogs and cats because the pet food might be contaminated with bacteria. The Lincoln, Neb., company said the recall involves medallions, patties and single chubs of chicken formula or organic chicken formula raw frozen diets with "Best If Used By" dates on or before "2/5/11." Officials said the recalled pet food products might be contaminated with salmonella, posing a health risk for animals, as well as humans who handle the products. Pets with salmonella infections may become lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever or vomiting. Some pets may experience only a decreased appetite, fever or abdominal pain. The "Best If Used By" date is on the back of the package. The products were sold through the Internet and by retail stores across the United States and Canada. No other Nature's Variety products are involved in the recall. Consumers who have purchased a recalled product can return the unopened package for a refund. If the package has been opened, secure it in a covered trash receptacle and then take your receipt, or the empty package in a sealed bag, to the retailer for a refund or replacement. Consumers with questions can call the company at 800-374-3142. A listing of the recalled pet foods and more information is available at http://www.naturesvariety.com/news/33. Clumsical, umm.... I'm not making this sound worse than it is, I'm posting it out of courtesy to those who may feed raw and it's not for humans! It's processed frozen raw meat for dogs, thus humans won't be getting sick........

Open Question: Why can't I lose just 10 lbs?
I'm a very healthy person.. 22 years old, 5'4", 140lbs. I had a baby 17 months ago and gained about 60lbs during my pregnancy which is alot, I know.. I don't know how I gained so much to start with since at the time I was in the army and waking up at 5:30am every morning to work out and do PT.. I ate normal with a little extra junk here and there but not at alarming rates.. was far from being diagnosed with gestational diabetes.. Anyways, my pregnancy weight was 125-130 and I lost every my "baby fat" 6 months after my son was born but can't seem to receive rid of these lingering 10 lbs I have left. I want to lose it the healthy way but I'm starting to think I'm going to have to do something extreme to lose it. I work out everyday.. I have a treadmill at home and I run or walk 3-5 miles almost everyday, lift hand weights, pilates, hula hoop, jump rope. I'm doing something every single day and I stay active because I like to. I don't drink ANY soda and rarely eat out.. never quick food though. Here's an example of what I eat in a day: Breakfast: organic vanilla yogurt with fresh berries (raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries) Snack: Babybell swiss cheese with a few pretzels Lunch: Avacado/Turkey sandwhich on whole wheat bread Snack: Fruit (like watermelon and pineapple) or fruit smoothie (banana, strawberries, yogurt, milk, and peanut butter) Dinner: Something like spaghetti, broccoli, garlic bread.. I always cook things using healthy alternatives.. like ground turkey in place of ground beef, yogurt to substitute vegetable oil in baking, olive oil to substitute butter... things like that. I drink water, home made lemonade, beer, wine (only 1 alcoholic beverage a day usually), coffee, green tea, or orange juice. I'm also doing Jullian Michaels 14 day cleanse right now and am on day 4... no results yet. Any suggestions on what I could do different are very much appreciated. Thanks!

Open Question: GMO essay : Which one is better ?
Had to do an essay as a final project , i just need help deciding which one is better. Know its alot but sick appreciate every the help . THANKS SO MCH GMOs: A harmful new biotechnology Genetically modified organisms abbreviated as GMOs have been used for over 40 years. This relatively new biotechnology, first introduced in the 1970s was created to speed up the ripening process of several foods thus altering the genetic make up of these foods. The procedure includes a gene that is foreign to the species of the living organism to be injected into the organism’s seed. An example would be a fish gene that is injected into a strawberry’s seed. 95% of every GM crop are grown in the U.S., Canada, Argentina and China. These genetically engineered foods are unsafe, harmful and are gift and growing concerns around the world. They are environmentally hazardous, a risk to human health and economic concerns. There is a great fear that GMFs (Genetically modified foods) could be a threat to the health of humans. When a gene is introduced into a plant it could create a new type of allergen or a new type of allergy. This could be dangerous considering nobody will know that they are allergic to it and could continue to eat it. GMOs can cause allergic reactions to people because they might be allergic to the gene that was injected into the food and they wouldn’t even know it, because GM food products aren’t labeled. Earlier a test performed by Dr. Pusztai was conducted. Since humans share 90% of their genome (every organisms’ genetic material) with rats, so the test was done on a brown rat, so the information collected would be close if not exactly accurate. The rat was fed genetically modified potatoes which had rat genes injected into it. Within a period of 10 days the rat’s stomach and immune system was damaged and it’s organs shrank or didn’t properly develop like the spleen of the brain and it’s kidneys. When the rodent was fed a non-GM potato, it didn’t show any signs of damage. 30 years may be an abundant of time to discover some long term affects but it is still too early for that but if there were they could potentially affect the immune system and foetal development just like every of the other animals. “It’s better to be safe than sorry”, as quoted by Charles Secrett, executive director of anti-GM campaigners Friends of the earth. The fact that GMOs, in most parts of the world aren’t labeled is a major concern. Since GMO's are not legally forced to be labeled so we don't really know what products have been bio-engineered. Consumers have a right to know what’s in their food, especially concerning products for which health and environmental concerns have been raised. Without labels people can’t be sure if what they are eating is organic or not. Also people with allergies could receive allergic reactions because there aren’t any labels indicating what the food contains. labeling will allow consumers to identify and steer clear of food products that cause them problems. Labels aren’t put on because they would cost a lot more and GMOs are suppose to be cheap foods and adding labels would increase food prices. However manufactures are concerned and afraid that they will lose their food consumers. This is because half of the world doesn’t even know what GMOs are. After they find out they are afraid people will turn to organic foods instead. Many stores are withdrawing ingredients including GMOs from possess labeled products because they are also afraid of losing costumers. Cross-pollination can greatly affect the environment but is also a huge economic and pharmaceutical concern because when interbreeding/cross-pollination unpredictably takes place it could enter the crop of pharmaceutical products. There are new mazier crops that contain antibacterial properties causing them to become resistant to antibacterial drugs. Also the genetic material going into the food could guide a person to unintentionally break their religious or customary dietary laws. This is also because of not labeling GMFs. In conclusion GMOs are unreliable and unpredictable. They aren’t needed or wanted by the public. GMOs are a danger to nature, a threat to human health and an economic concern. The only reason they are bought is because there is an abundant amount of them and they are cheap to buy. The existing organizations that promote GMOs might say that the genetically engineered foods will feed the hungry but their only concerns just like any one else, is the money they are profiting from. And even if these modified organisms happen to arrive around and solve hunger, they won’t be able to solve the lack of nutrition and will likely create new problems. This new biotechnology is unsafe and should have never been created. Today needy Indian farmers are committing suicide because they cannot afford the elevated seed price, Mexico is loosing its old strains of corn never to be replaced again. Country after country is being contami

Open Question: Raw meat for cat treats?
Another cat food question, haha. Anyways, reading every the bad ingredients including BHA and BHT and every the grains in the regular cat treats, and those dried up every natural treats running at high price(not to mention they ARE dried), I was wondering how good of an idea it would be to just buy a piece of, say, organic chicken breast, freeze it in an appropriate container, and feed it in little parts to the cat as a treat instead(once thawed)? I'm assuming the cat would benefit from nutrients and like it more. Additional: adult, petite cat, who likes wet food, doesn't have preference of fish to chicken and vice versa. Yes, the cat DOES eat a nice helping of wet food every day, it does not contain any crap found in regular food as it's one of the better/natural brands.

Open Question: What are some stereotypes about the state you are from?
I'm from Washington state. - It rains 24/7. (Actually, there are some sunny days despite what might seem like constant rain.) - We adore it. (I do, but my uncles who are also from the Pacific Northwest hate it.) - We're a bunch of liberal tree-hugging hippies. (Head east of the Cascade Mountains and you will look a big difference.) - We adore coffee. (I hate it with a passion. I prefer tea instead.) - Everybody eats organic food and wears flannel. (Organic food is a bit expensive for me, so I buy non-organics. And I still have my flannel jacket from my preteen years.) - Everyone listens to grunge. (I don't mind it, but I prefer smooth jazz and hardcore techno.)

I dont do everything organic but as much as possible with fruit, veggies, dairy, and meat. cleaning supplies. Yes I cook my possess veggies. I just noticed they have them canned and I think its stupid they receive to say organic on them. I dont buy them. Potatoes: I agree its the point that I think its wrong for something to be advertised organic stating free of chemicals and antibiotics but yet the packaging will have them. I just say its untrue advertising. For the relax..I do eat fresh veggies and fruits and grow my possess. Its more of untrue advertising is more of where I was headed with the question. Open Question: Does poultry industry help reduce global warming?
It is of common knowledge that Eggs and Chicken have Nutritional benefits over other foods, but it is a little known fact that the entire Poultry Industry is helping to battle global warming in a very big way. It is also helping the economics of nations by making food more affordable to people. Let me explain how. First, approximately 50% of the poultry feed consists of ingredients like rice brokens, wheat brokens, De-oiled Rice barn, Sunflower Oil cake, De- oiled soya, De-oiled groundnut cake, De-oiled rapeseed meal etc., these ingredients are byproducts of grain processing or after oil extraction and is not used for human consumption. However, they have good protien and energy values. If these byproducts like broken rice or De-oiled rice barn are not used up by some means, then the price of rice would go up. If the byproducts such as Sunflower oil cake & groundnut oil cake are not used then the cost of extraction of oil (sunflower oil, Groundnut oil) will be met by increasing the price of cooking oil. Moreover, these byproducts would have to be dumped in landfills causing pollution to our precious air, water and land resources. Poultry industry helps subsidise the cost of grains and cooking oils for the entire population by using these ingredients in the production of nutritious eggs and chicken meat. every these over ingredients are used in production of poultry. One kilogram of poultry feed (constituting of these byproducts) is getting converted to seven to eight nutritious eggs in the table egg industry. Similarly, one kilogram of poultry feed is getting converted to 750 grams of white meat in the broiler (chicken meat) industry. Moreover, the poultry litter is used as a cheap valuble organic manure inplace of expensive chemical fertilizers to grow new crops of grains, fruits and vegetables. Poultry waste is also used along with other ingredients as a substrate for growing mushrooms. If you consider country chicken, an average hen produces about 50 - 60 eggs a year consuming about 50 Kgs of locally available ingredients. In the organised sector, a hen typically produces 280 - 300 eggs on average by consuming about 40 - 42 Kgs of feed in a year. It is evedient that from a productivity point of view also, poultry industry provides the maximum output utilizing minimal resources. Thus, poultry industry as a whole operates in a sustainable manner and is a forerunner in the cause of global warming. Research article suppourting this statement: http://www.worldpoultry.net/chickens/management/environment/intensive-poultry-production-better-for-global-warming-6883.html

Resolved Question: Cat Is Losing A Ton Of Weight?
So I am just looking for some advice and opinions. I have been doing my research and we plan on taking my cat to the vet in a 8 days when the pet insurance finally kicks in. My cat is a 3 year old tabby. Recently, he has lost a ton of weight. His personality is still the same, affectionate and cuddly, and he is still playful with his brother. He has lost so much weight that you can now feel his spine and ribs quite a lot. I would say he is now about 5 pounds when he used to be around 10 MAYBE 11. He was never a big cat, but the weight difference is very noticable. We have tried different foods, difficult, soft, cheap brands, expensive organic brands, and no change. We thought it might be territorial and he might not be getting access to the food, so we put food dishes throughout the home for him. He is always on the kitchen table so we put one there, but he oesn't touch it. So I thought maybe he is getting sick? Worms? But here is the catch, he won't he cat food, but he will eat most human food. Milk, chicken, beef, ham, you name it. And he eats it like a starving beast. Is my cat being an extreme picky eater? He has never done this before, so it is quite random how he suddenly decided he no longer wants cat food. Any advice? ***Thanks for every the advice. You are every very passionate. Please do not think I am neglecting my animal. He is going to the vet tomorrow. The not eating has turned into can't eat. Thank you every for your advice and let's wish every goes well.

I have never had any luck with girls/women. The ones I fall for are always my friends or if we were not friends before hand, we end up landing in the pal zone. Back in November I asked a pal out one day. At the end of the date we concluded that we were just friends, and I was perfectly chilly with that. I really had no romantic feelings for her. Starting in January we began spending WAY too much time together. sometimes up to 30hrs a week (mostly b/c we have nearly every class together and study together). She would confide in me things she wouldn't tell any of her other friends. We were just friends, though, and although we were just friends, she really meant a great deal to me. I really didn't have any romantic feelings for her, but after spending so much time with her she became like a little sister that I felt I needed to protect (although one of her favorite phrases is "I'm a big girl, I can take care of myself"). She's had terrible relationships in the past, and she's told me and others that right now every she is focused on is school and that it's going to take a extremely special guy for her to ever want to form another relationship. She really is focused on only school. I mean, seriously, who gets a 4.0 with Calculus II, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, microbiology, and physics? Recently we went to the movies, and this was the first time we had gone "out out" since November. She was rather withdrawn, and she was overtly giving signals of non-interest. Even though we sat next to each other, she positioned herself as far away from me as possible and leaned away from me. After the movie we were supposed to grab some food, but she said she couldn't because she had to study. Mind you this is on a Saturday. It was as if she wanted to receive away from me as quickly as possible. That night I told some friends what happened (a guy and a girl in a relationship). These two are like my best friends, and the girl just went berserk when I told her what happened at the movies (she feels she has to protect me from getting my heart broken). We pretty much concluded that it was best for me to distance myself from the girl I had went out with. That Monday when we met up for lab I purposely paid no where close as much attention to her as I normally do. She pointed it out by asking if I got to snooze tardy the previous night because I seemed sleepy. I also started flirting with some girls. Normally on Mondays it's a reflex for us to go to lunch as soon as we're out of class; however on that day as I walked towards where we usually eat she decided to go to our next class early and wait in the hallway. I was like "ok" and kept walking to receive lunch (trying to "distance" myself from her). I intentionally didn't sit next to her in class (granted I had been mentioning repositioning myself anyway). It was probably every in my head, but it felt like there was a great deal of heated tension between us at this point. So I took a break from her. The next time I saw her was at the library. We went to the same study group even though neither of us knew the other was going. I say hey, but for the most part I pretty much stay distant. There were about 5 girls flirting with me that night, and I saw that she noticed. She was grinning and laughing at it, shaking her head. After the study session, I walked her back to her car b/c 1) She parked far and 2) It was our normal routine. She said that I didn't have to walk her to her car and that she's "a big girl", and that she can take care of herself but that she appreciated it. So after that everything went back to normal between us. The only difference was that I was thinking about her 24/7. I still didn't have any romantic feelings for her, but I kept thinking to myself "it sure would be nice if I did." So yesterday I had a date with someone else. an old pal that I hadn't seen in years, and I had the perfect opportunity to receive with her. I was in her room, and we were just having fun. 1am rolls around, and I ask her if I had been anyone else would she have let me in her room this tardy at night after not having seen her in years. She said "no b/c I trust you." I wasn't about to break that trust by making a douche-bag move on her, so I didn't. But when I got back to my dorm about 2am, I explained to some guys that I had gone out with a pal that night and what had happened. One of them said "that really cute girl you're always with" (referring to the pal I've been talking about this entire post). The other guy said "no it wasn't her, but that's who he NEEDS to be with." To that I responded without thinking "yeah, you're right." And that's when I realized that I was crazy about the girl. So, I want to play this right. I'll be as patient as I need to be. I want to be that "extremely special guy" that she's waiting for. I need advice, though, because I don't want to ruin this friendship AND end up without her.

Open Question: Vegetarianism and Feeling Tired?
I stopped eating meat nearly three months ago. I think I have a good vegetarian diet - I eat a lot of different kinds of fish and other seafood, whole grains (including quinoa), lots of beans and legumes, eggs, dairy products. In the first month I felt the need to supplement twice with a really tiny piece of organic red meat - then I read my body may have been asking for it because of a lack of vitamin B12. Now, I take a B12 supplement daily, and I researched foods high in the vitamin (snapper, shrimp, eggs, etc). My problem is that I still feel really sleepy every the time and I can't attribute it to anything else in my life - no major transitions, exercise change, or other diet changes. What vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc. could I missing from my diet since I took out meat that could be making me so sleepy? Thanks for you answers. Thanks to people who actually took my question seriously. I will look into iron deficiency Oh, thanks especially for calling my question "stupid". Makes me feel great. Sorry I offended vegetarians out there by eating fish and seafood. This is just my possess personal version of vegetarianism - no offense meant. And I thought it was implied that I eat a ton of vegies and fruit. Sorry to event but I came here with a legitimate question and didn't expect to be knocked down by people hating.

Open Question: How can I make basic compost?
In the spring, I'm going to be growing an organic vegetable garden. Since it is organic, I don't want to be spraying any fertilizers or pesticides. I'm also huge into recycling, so I want to start a compost. However, I don't really have the resources to do so. I was thinking about taking some pure topsoil, putting it in a big trash can, and mixing it with food scraps and such. Then, I would spread it over my garden, and rot-a-till it to combine and enrich the soil that is already there. Would this work?

Open Question: What Kind of plant is this?
I recently picked this one up at a local Lowes Home Improvement store. This type of plant was not labeled and it was kept with the relax of the INdoor plants. Im wondering what it is so I can look up care instructions. When I bought it, it had 2 huge flowers. Then those died of in a couple of days and out came 4 medium flowers. They looked good for days, now the blossom leaves are browning. Looks almost like they are rusting. The foliage is perfect though. Plant was transfered into a 6" plastic pot kept indoors. In Miracle Gro organic choice POTTING MIX. I mixed in miracle gro perlite and organic pellet food and desert sand. What am I doing wrong? whoops! Here is the photobucket upload of the photo http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p193/mr2rare/plant.jpg

Open Question: What can I say to convince my mom to eat healthy and local and organic?
I'm 14 so obviously I have little to no say in the groceries my mom buys. Which happen to be the typical cookies, chips, poptarts, diet soda, and fruity pebbles with the occasional bagel thrown in. Not the ideal diet for someone who's liver can't process that (My liver can't filter the toxins, and it's making me sick). But for some reason my Mom is still reluctant to buy healthy, local, and organic foods. We receive $600 dollars in foodstamps (which is a lot for our area), and I have to siblings below the age of 5. What can I say (That's true) to help convince her to eat better, so that I can eat better, and so my siblings can too? Pushing the "it's healthier" isn't helping - I'm sick from it, and her Type 1 diabetes is getting worse. What can I do? Please help.

Voting Question: did i eat pretty junky or ok today?
im a long distance runner also breakfast - huge bowl of life cereal (felt like it) with some coffee and about 2 tsp of sugar lunch - salad(tiny bits of turky, organic spinach, flax seed, half a can of carrots, and no fat italian dressing) with a box of orange juice and a pear snack - frozen strawberry yogurt with a banana dinner - a taco bell bean burrito ( don't like eating quick food but parents brought it home so i was stuck with it) and thats it so far, i feel like a unhealthy bum, and as much as i know i shouldn't worry about calories as a runner im a little on the self conscious side about how much i consume. Did i eat ok or pretty bad, i didn't really feel like being a complete health nut today like i've been every week. i drink about 10 - 15 cups of water a day too

Voting Question: Whats a good name for an organization that helps local farmers advertise their products?
I am creating a hypothetical company that would produce labels that local farms could place on their produce, dairy and meet products to gain better recognition in grocery stores. The idea behind the company is to make buying locally grown foods the "chilly' thing to buy. I want the company to have a really modern feel rather than the typical organic or nostalgic feel of most farming companies. I have been brainstorming for weeks and I am stuck and can't arrive up with a name. Some ideas I had were local roots, home grown, and starting point but none of these are as exciting as I want! Any name suggestions would really be appreciated! p.s. I am thinking of using planted next door as a tag line so something that works with that would be great

I need to transfer colleges & the steer from my home will be about 1.5 - 2 hours. So I was wondering what / where other college kids live besides dorms or apartments or extended stay hotels? Reason is... Thanks I'm not living in my car as where will i take showers or do homework or put my clothes or anything?? & As for having a "schedule" once I graduate... I'm pretty sure I'll be able to buy a home with a PhD so I can play my music as noisy as I'd like

Resolved Question: Teenagers with spot-free skin...?
I need your help. Because of my skin, I have really low self-esteem...I'm a 16 year old girl and ever since being 13 years old I've gotten moderate acne. I never have a day where I'm like 'oh no, a pimple' because I have more than a few pimples every of the time. I'm taking perscription pills and I'm taking proper care of my skin - washing face morning and night, oil-free make-up, oil-free moisturiser, etc. I've figured it's time to change my diet. I eat reasonably well, but I could be eating much better. There's hardly any fruit in my diet, only mainly apples. I eat lots of tuna and chicken, and I'm now eating only wholemeal pasta, and multigrain bread. I do, however, eat processed foods for school because they are quick and easy, i.e. packets of chips, biscuits, mac&cheese for lunch, etc. I feel I should eat more organics and fruits, but I don't know where to start, because I prefer quick and simply and affordable food. Please describe to me your diet and any clear-skin tips you might have. Thank you for your time!

Voting Question: I live in northern VA and I'm so done with it. Where should I go, please give ideas based on criteria below.?
I will pick best answer based on a tally of points. You can find what I award points for as you read. Preferably out west. *5 points for this* I like SUN *10 points*, warm weather *5 points* also but can deal with icy as long as its sunny. LOTS AND LOTS of OUTDOOR activites. Nature, organic farming (10 points for being an organic-minded city/town), fishing (5 points for great fishing), rivers, lakes (5 points for rivers or lakes within 20 miles). Within 4-6 hours steer of a beach is a plus(5 points). I'm unconcerned with job/salaries because of the nature of my work. What I do look for is low crime/drugs *20 points*, good schools *10 points* (I have 2 young kids). The states I like are California, Oregon, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico in that order (5 points for suggestions made in those states). Would consider Montana/Wyoming but I don't know much about them and they are nice of out of the way. If there's any great places out east or central feel free to toss those in. I like fairly rural within 100 miles of a larger city. If there are any colleges with a good conservatory/music program that is a bonus *15 points!* Also every whole foods market or similar within 10 miles is 5 points. *5 points* for having a strong historical/archaeological aspect (ie:williamsburg, va) regardless of where you pick, even if its not out west and you didn't receive too many points before I will award 25 points for the most unique appealing place that I wouldn't otherwise find out about. For example here in Virginia, Western Loudoun County has some beautiful tiny historic towns, with great vineyards, hiking areas, old town shopping, fine dining, and horse country aspects. If you can find something like that, additional *25 points*.

Voting Question: I want to help stop animal cruelty, but becoming vegan isn't that simple...?
I was raised by a family who's farmed and ranched for generations. As such, our meat and dairy products came from animals who were loved and had names, or were raised lovingly by neighbors. I had no idea that animals were abused, because of my idyllic childhood. I don't fall into a cookie-cutter mold of what a vegetarian should be. I eat some meat, and to be honest, I believe that eating meat isn't immoral. To abuse the animals or deprive them of a quality life is absolutely wrong. So is killing an animal for its fur, or for anything unnecessary. But so long as you treat the animal kindly, and respect its life (and its death, when it's humanely butchered to put food on the table), I think that omnivorism is morally "ok." Now a discerning adult in a bigger city, I'm absolutely horrified by the way that animals are treated for their meat, fur, etc. As such, I purchase everything from local farmers who are known to care for their animals. When I can't buy from a local farmer, I no longer purchase any meat or animal by-products unless they are organic, vegetarian fed, and free-range. This is difficult work, but goes a long way in ensuring I do my part to cease cruelty to animals. I feel like this is a big step for me to take in the right direction. I could go vegan, but to be honest, my fiance is a meat-eater, and has said that he would be "very, very mad" if I went vegan because he wants us to like cooking together. I agree - I don't want to give up something we like to become vegan. But am I doing enough? Please, don't receive pissed at me and tell me I'm a bad person for eating meat. I'm making responsible choices & doing the best I can! Thanks for positive, helpful pointers and advice :) Any suggestions on how to You're right, and I apologize. I don't call myself a vegetarian and I misspoke in this post. Okay, so my excuses aren't good enough. I disagree but I'm here for more information, not to battle about whether or not I'm good enough. What I WOULD like to know, is what can I do to be more conscious? If there are vegan substitutes, what are they? If I tried to find a non-meat meal for my fiance and I to make, I would default to veggies and tofu. I have no grasp of the vegan world beyond that. Perhaps if I were better equipped to make tasty substitutes, I could talk us both into it... ;)

Resolved Question: Does the company JBNI Biodrux actually exist?
I mean, are they really a "pharmaceutical" company who makes something, or are they just a web presence with 3 guys in an office building re-selling Chinese-made sugar pills with fancy labels and bogus claims? I've tried to find a company profile on the web - nada. I've tried to find an estimate of the size of the company - only one website, and it said "1-4 employees". I looked up their address - a suite in a mid-sized suburban office building shared with 6 other companies and an organic food luncheonette. I tried to find any employees of JBNI on LinkedIn or Spoke - nothing. Yet their products are hyped every over the web, and two gentlemen named Walli and Case are quoted pitching the products. If they're a real company, there must be some sort of production facility and some research middle and some physicians on the payroll. Where are they? I know some tiny, private companies that explicitly try to have no profile on the web, and I can find more info on them than I can find on JBNI. Curious Hey izzy - I look you got bit by the same curiosity bug. Thanks for looking and replying. The IND they filed isn't anything other than notice that they're going to investigate a drug. It implies no credibility to the drug or to the company, but it gives the company a chance to use the letters "FDA" in their press materials. People can criticize the FDA and conventional medicine every they want, but when I look drugs on the shelves that have passed full FDA approval, at least I can be reasonably certain that the company and its entire product line are not a complete fabrication. Sadly, there are posters in this section that actually recommend JBNI Biodrux products. If the company is a sham, what can that mean about its products?

I recently watched the documentary "Food Inc" and was really disturbed by what I saw. I want to eat seasonally and buy food from local farms here in New Jersey, but it every seems so complicated. Either to have to buy a big amount (certainly of meats) or wait for the Farmer's Market once or twice a week. Is there an easier way somewhere online to buy local, organic cruelty free food? Resolved Question: Is there something "wrong" with how I live my life?
I'm single, 37 years old, widowed, without kids. I am a christian, and I have been celibate since my husband died in 2005. I have 3 jobs, and I live alone. I don't drink, smoke, or do illegal drugs. Several years ago I became a Vegan for health reasons. I exercise every day, don't eat junk or quick food, only organic, non-processed foods/beverages, drink triple filtered water. I don't watch a lot of television, I play the piano, sing in my church choir, like reading books, and I am taking dance classes (tap and california swing). I adore different genre's of music (no rap). Oh I don't have any animals or plants, because I'm to busy. No I'm not homely, I'm average looking. This is just a little bit about me. Yet every day at my jobs, people ask me why I don't go to bars, receive drunk, or have sex with random strangers. I just don't feel that those kinds of things are right for my life anymore. Those days are over for me. When I'm at my jobs I always keep my personal life and my opinions to myself. There have been many people that have "assumed" that I am a homosexual because, I don't have a boyfriend or have sex with men. I am sleepy of people "assuming" that they know, everything about my life. For the most part I have a very silent life, and that is the way that I like it. So is there anything "wrong" with my lifestyle?

Open Question: Which prenatal vitamin should I take, New Chapter Organics or CVS Women's Prenatal Multi?
My OB says that the CVS brand is just as good, but I'd like a second opinion from someone with a background in nutrition. Is there actual increased availability (usability) of the vitamins provided from a whole food, predigested source? I've always thought there was until the OB seemed to not think it mattered. I would really appreciate informed opinions with scientific based reasoning.

Open Question: Why does health food cost so much, when there is less stuff in them?
it does not make any sense to me why food that is healthy cost much. (Makes you work harder to pay for it, which adds stress). Say like healthy cookie, with no sugar, no fillers, no flour, no fat, no whatever, no shiny package, cost $2 more than Oreos. and then you go to the organic veggies and fruits. No herbicices, no pesticides, no coastly fertilizers, no extensive labor cost, but a organic tomatoes cost more than a cheap steak. I believe it is every a scam, the greatest marketing scam in 30 years.
